What is a 360 Degree Appraisal ?
The process is different to a traditional appraisal because additional people are asked to provide feedback. Typically, feedback is requested from manager(s), peers, direct reports as well as the person themselves in order to give an all round perspective, hence the name '360 degree' or sometimes 540. A 180 degree feedback is when only two dimensions are used - usually the person and their manager - or the person and the people they manage. The combined feedback is used to generate a report that will help identify what is going well, and where some development may be useful.

How many people can I ask to participate in my feedback ?
There is no limit on how many people are asked to contribute - although asking about 8 others is typical. Your manager - 3 peers - 4 direct reports seems to provide the best view.

Is the process confidential - will people know who said what ?
The names of the people completing the questionnaires are never revealed - however if there is only one manager (or one peer etc) then it would be obvious what their contribution had been. For this reason we suggest that when sensitive populations (e.g. Direct reports) are involved you should always add more than one of each type to the list. One self, one manager, 2 direct reports, 2 peers etc. The only name that appears on the report is that of the person being appraised.

Is the price based on the number of people involved giving feedback ?
No - the price is for the complete report - so however many people are asked to be involved the price stays the same.

When do I pay for the completed report ?
The system is designed to allow you to complete the process before you pay - You pay for the report when you download it.

Will I need to set up anything on my PC or Intranet ?
No the system is completely hosted by reactive360. We send the e-mails for you and host the whole process on our servers. All you need is a PC with Internet Explorer 6 (Service Pack 2) or newer (IE7).

What help is available on the system ?
Each screen has it's own help. There is a search by 'keyword' that provides more specific help. Live help is often available - or if you get stuck you can call or e-mail us with your question.

Can I fully customise the process ?
You can - create your own questionnaires, choose from a wide range of scoring options, add free text questions - change the layout of the report and add custom pages - change the colour schemes and images used, change the text on the invitation e-mail and use different colours and images for the on-line questionnaire.

What if I need to chase people to remind them to complete the feedback ?
The system allows you to chase people as and when you need to.

How many copies of the report do I get ?
The completed report is held within your own secure area - the report is a pdf document. Once purchased you can download the report as many times as you choose. Most people download the report and 'save' it on their pc.

Can I view how the report will look before I start the process ?
Yes we have designed the system to allow you to 'preview' the report - complete with your questions, colours and images. We populate the report with 'dummy data' to bring it to life. You can then make additional changes to the layout of the questionnaire or the report before you send out the questionnaires.

If I don't like the report can I change it ?
Yes - you can change the report layout and the questionnaire up to the point where you send the questionnaires to people - at that point the layout is 'locked'.

Can I create different combinations of questionnaires and reports for different groups ?
Yes a questionnaire and report work together with the colours and images - so different groups could get a completely different combination.

Do I need to send all the questionnaires at once ?
No - you can send a few questionnaires and then as you get further information add more people and then send the additional questionnaires..

What if I make a mistake with an e-mail address ?
The system will recognise a failed e-mail and will tell you that you need to fix it. Once fixed you can send it again.

Will the system work on my pc ?
That really depends on what version of internet explorer you are using. The administrative part of the system has some very advanced features that will not work on versions earlier than IE 6 with service pack 2. We are developing the system for MAC and other browsers. The questionnaire sent to people will operate on earlier browsers - we have tested the questionnaire on IE 5.00.

What if someone completes a questionnaire and then wants to add more scores ?
From our experience this is not an unusual request as people reflect on how they scored someone. The system allows you to re-open a completed questionnaire until you generate the finished report.

Can I download the data as a spreadsheet to add to my records ?
Yes - When the report is generated you can download the average scores to a spreadsheet.

Do I get an invoice sent to me when I buy credits ?
No - but as the account holder you can access all your transactions and print invoices.

Can I change my e-mail if I move companies ?
Yes you can change both the e-mail address and the password.

I have lost my password - what do I do ?
Send us an e-mail with the Name you logged in as and your e-mail address and we will re-send the password.

Yes - we would need the contact information in the form of a spreadsheet to import all the information into your account.

Yes - we have gained significant experience in questionnaire design - call us - or e-mail us with your requirements.

Does the questionnaire remember what I have added even if I do not finish ?
Yes - as you move from one page to the next - forward or back the information you have added is automatically saved - this will allow you to re-access the questionnaire and complete it at any time.

When I complete a questionnaire can I see what feedback I entered ?
Yes when you complete a questionnaire it is stored in an archive that you can access.

I want to set up the process and allow people to then manage their own appraisals - is this possible ?
Yes - there is an advanced feature that allows people to manage their own appraisals - using your Template and credits - they have limited access to the functions.

What is the difference between multi rater feedback and 360 degree appraisal ?
Nothing - different terms are used in different countries.

What is a peer, stakeholder, direct report in your list of relationships ?
A peer is someone with a similar role A stakeholder is someone with a stake in what the person being appraised does day-to day. A Direct Report is someone who is directly managed by the person being appraised.

Is the system secure ?
The two most important areas of the system for security are 'Your Account' and the 'Reports' section - both of these are encrypted at 128 bit (the highest level). The data is continually backed up on a secure storage to allow us to recover quickly should something dramatic happen.

Where do the e-mails come from ?
We have designed the process to send e-mails from two places - The system e-mails and the questionnaire invitation e-mails use seperate mail servers. For more information about our mail servers, i.p. addresses and domains for firewalls and anti-spam - contact us by e-mail.

I am having problems using the system on my PC what do I do ?
Because of the advanced features we use to make the system simple some people do have technical problems with some versions of Internet Explorer. The best solution is to check what version you are on and then maybe get the version up-dated. get the latest browser version available. To check which version you have open Internet Explorer and click the menu item called 'Help' and then click 'About Internet Explorer'. If the version has numbers that start with 6 or 7 there should be no problem. To update your browser to a newer version Open Internet Explorer, Click the Tools menu and then click Windows Update. If there are any updates they can be installed. - If you still have problems contact us and we will try our best to help. We apologise for this and are trying to find solutions to some of the know problems within all the versions of Internet Explorer. The site uses 'cookies': A cookie is a small piece of computer code we give your Web browser when you log in. This is how we identify you as a registered user. If you have a cookie blocker of internet privacy set to stop all cookies, the site will not work.

I have just read the above question and answer and am baffled - will it work or not ?
These are the version of Internet Explorer against which we have tested the system:
Internet Explorer 5/5.5 - will not work.
Internet Explorer 6.0.2800 (Base version with service Pack 1) - works fine.
Internet Explorer 6.0.2900 (Service Pack 2) - works fine.
Internet Explorer 7 - works fine.
Firefox, Safari - work fine.

What level of security encryption do you use ?
The Accounts and Reports modules within the system are 128 bit.
